چکیده

Dehydration of ethanol via adsorption on 3Å molecular sieves has recently been increasing in application in industry as an alternative to the conventional separation techniques for breaking the ethanol-water azeotrope. Over the past 20 years, Pressure-Vacuum Swing Adsorption (PSA) processes have gained increasing commercial acceptance as an energy-efficient separation technique. A general purpose package for simulation of cyclic adsorption processes based on the data from an operating plant and laboratory data has been developed. The dispersed plug flow model includes variation of axial velocity and the fluid flow follows Ergun‘s equation locally. A linear driving force mass-transferrate coefficient was used to describe adsorption and desorption kinetics. The operation of the column can be isothermal, adiabatic or non-isothermal non-adiabatic. The governing parabolic equations have been solved via method of lines using a stiff equation integration package. Several case study simulation results of dewatering the ethanol-water mixture in the fuel ethanol production process are presented.

Biotechnology strategies with industrial fuel ethanol Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for efficient 1st and 2nd generation bioethanol production from sugarcane

Background In Brazil the production of fuel ethanol is based on the fermentation of sucrose from sugarcane by selected industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strains [1-3], a mature and highly competitive technology. Taking into account that the feedstock costs have a major role in the overall economics of the process, it is expected that more efficient conversions of sucrose into ethanol (1...

Liquid Fuel Production from Synthesis Gas via Fermentation Process in a Continuous Tank Bioreactor (CSTBR) Using Clostridium ljungdahlii

The potential bioconversion of synthesis gas (syngas) to fuels and chemicals by microbial cell has attracted considerable attention in past decade. The feasibility of enhancing syngas bioconversion to ethanol and acetate using Clostridium ljungdahlii in a continuous tank bioreactor (CSTBR), kinetics and mass transfer coefficient of carbon monoxide (CO) utilization were evaluated. Two different ...

Production Constraints Modelling: A Tactical Review Approach

A constraint is a limitation or a restriction that poses a threat to the performance and efficiency of a system. This paper presented a tactical review approach to production constraints modeling. It discussed the theory of constraints (TOC) as a thinking process and continuous improvement strategy to curtail constraints in other to constantly increase the performance and efficiency of a system...
